Hello everyone,
It has been around four months since my last update, and I felt I owed you all an honest explanation and update on where my head is at.
As some of you will remember, my last update explained that I was stepping back from advocacy work within the TMJD community for the foreseeable future whilst keeping the petition open. The simple truth is that I had reached a point of complete emotional exhaustion.
I needed to step away.
And, to be honest, I don't regret doing so.
Since being away, I have had some time to reflect, process everything and speak to some people I know personally. Having that breathing space has allowed me to think more clearly and ask myself some difficult questions.
One of those questions is this:
At what point do we stop simply sharing our frustrations with one another and start asking whether there should be a more coordinated and serious effort to seek accountability and meaningful change?
I have been giving some thought to the possibility of a collective legal approach or class action-type initiative. I want to be very careful with my wording here: this is just an idea at this stage. I am not announcing legal proceedings, promising outcomes or claiming to have all the answers.
Interestingly, this is not really about me personally. I have managed to reach a fair agreement regarding financial compensation in relation to treatment that ultimately failed in my own case.
My thinking is much broader than that.
I am thinking about the thousands of people who continue to feel unheard, unsupported, dismissed or left indefinitely in limbo. The people who have spent years going around in circles, exhausted by the process and feeling as though nobody truly understands the impact that TMJD can have on everyday life.
For the record, I know that not every person's experience is identical. I know there are good clinicians out there. I know some people improve and some people are content with the care they have received.
But I also know that many people are not.
So perhaps there is an opportunity to bring greater public attention to these experiences and start a much bigger conversation.
However, I also want to be brutally honest.
If anything of this nature were ever to happen, it cannot be based upon half-hearted interest or fleeting social media engagement.
There can be no messing around.
No ducking and diving.
No disappearing the moment things become difficult.
If people genuinely want accountability, meaningful change and greater recognition of these issues, then it would require commitment, patience and collective effort.
This would be for serious people only.
You cannot simultaneously say that the system has failed you, that enough is enough and that change is desperately needed, only to disappear when opportunities arise to contribute towards achieving that change.
Equally, I completely understand that not everybody is in a position to participate.
Many people are exhausted.
Many are struggling physically, mentally, emotionally or financially.
Some simply do not have the energy to fight.
That is perfectly okay.
Nobody should ever feel guilty for prioritising their health and wellbeing.
I also want to make something else abundantly clear.
I am not a saviour. I am not a leader in waiting. I am certainly not a "messiah".
Please do not look at this petition, this cause or myself in those terms.
I am just an ordinary person who developed a condition that profoundly affected his life and subsequently discovered that many other people were experiencing remarkably similar frustrations. That's all.
I do not possess special knowledge, legal expertise or magical solutions.
I do not guarantee success.
And please do not assume that any future developments would somehow be "all down to me".
Meaningful change, if it ever happens, only happens because ordinary people collectively decide they have had enough and are willing to play their part.
Signing a petition is important because it demonstrates that people care.
But meaningful change almost always requires something more than signatures alone.
For now, I simply wanted to let everyone know that I have not forgotten about this petition, nor have I forgotten about the people behind it.
So, for those who find this idea genuinely interesting and believe there may be merit in exploring it further, please feel free to get in touch with me directly at:

I want to stress once again that this is simply an early conversation and an opportunity to gauge interest. I am not making promises, offering legal advice or guaranteeing any particular outcome.
Like I said, I am looking for thoughtful, serious-minded people who feel strongly about these issues and are willing to have an honest discussion about what, if anything, could realistically be achieved.
If nothing ultimately comes of it, then at least we explored the possibility and asked the question. But if enough people genuinely care and are prepared to engage constructively, perhaps something meaningful could emerge from it.
Either way, thank you once again for your support and for continuing to keep this conversation alive. It means more than you probably realise.
Take care of yourselves.
Lawrence
