Penalty Infringement Notice # 3173541021
FEBRUARY 2024 UPDATE:
The EPA has issued AJ Bush and Sons with a penalty infringement notice of $15,000 and an official caution following an unannounced inspection of the Riverstone premises in September 2023 where alleged breaches of their Environment Protection Licence were observed.
The inspection followed a routine odour survey by EPA officers on 12 September of Riverstone, Rouse Hill, and Grantham Farm, where odours suspected to have originated from activities at AJ Bush and Sons’ Riverstone premises were detected.
It should be noted that this infringement notice and fine was in relation to the allegedly horrendous findings that cited by EPA officers when attending the site (EPA notice #3506758)
On site officers allegedly witnessed more than 70 bins of raw animal parts uncovered and being stored outside. In addition to this there was allegedly a significant amount of blood and feathers strewn across the driveway in addition to an overflowing waste water pond. The full notice can be found on the EPA website.
It should also be stated that this is the second clean up notice that AJ Bush & Sons has been issued with during a 12 month period. They were also issued with a clean up notice (Notice #3504394) in December 2022.
In this notice, EPA officers alleged to have attended the site after multiple complaints of odour from surrounding suburbs on site they allege to have witnessed a pond of effluent forming a “crust” on the site. The EPA requested for maintenance to the pond. The full notice can be found on the EPA website.
Please also note that AJ Bush & Sons have been issued with a $15K fine by the EPA in May 2021 (Notice# 3173530288)
