Petition updateStop the Shutdown Crisis: Protect Food & Heating Assistance in Western PASNAP Benefits Frozen Amid Shutdown — Families at Risk, Community Must Act

As of November 4, 2025, President Donald Trump has announced that no SNAP (food stamp) benefits will be distributed until the federal government reopens — even though a federal court order requires those payments to continue.

This reversal affects over 42 million Americans — including thousands of families right here in Western Pennsylvania — who depend on SNAP to put food on the table.

“SNAP benefits will be given only when the Radical Left Democrats open up government, and not before!” — President Trump, Truth Social (Nov. 4, 2025) [Sources: Reuters / TribLive, Nov. 4, 2025 and Cox Media Group National Desk, Nov. 4, 2025]

A federal judge in Rhode Island previously ruled that benefits must be paid using contingency funds to prevent “irreparable harm.”

The administration has now refused to comply — escalating this into a national food crisis in the middle of a government shutdown.

⚠️ What’s Happening

No new SNAP payments are expected until the government reopens.

$4 billion in funding for November benefits is being withheld.

The average household receives about $190 per person per month, money that now may never arrive.

This means millions of families — seniors, children, veterans, and people with disabilities — will lose access to food assistance immediately.
