Thank you for your ongoing support of this petition to Ban the Killing of Rays in Port Phillip Bay - we have now reached over 20,000 SIGNATURES and thanks to your proactive efforts we are still travelling strong! We have added a VIDEO LINK into the petition featuring disturbing evidence of a 'banjo shark' (aka fiddler ray) that has been chopped in half alive then thrown back into the water where it may suffer for hours before dying. Currently this abject cruelty is 'legal' in Port Phillip Bay, Australia as the animal is considered 'wanted catch'. Sincere gratitude to the 27 people who so far have supported the promotion of this petition financially to help us to reach a broader audience. Also to the individuals and social media outlets that have shared the petition to their members. Please continue to share this petition and the video to #raysawareness and to add your voice to achieve our aims to: 1. Ban the killing of rays in Port Phillip Bay 2. Post signage on boat ramps and the fishing end of piers and jetties featuring pictures of these endemic species of rays, along with penalties for killing them against current and future regulation 3. Further educate the Victorian fishing community about current regulations and the proposed incoming bans on taking ‘wanted’ and ‘unwanted’ rays and how to release and return them without harm 4. Monitor piers, jetties and ramps more effectively with cameras, and position more Fisheries officers to deliver penalties to offenders You are welcome to join the closed Project Banjo Action Group on Facebook or the public Rays Awareness FB page. Thank you for your support. Together we WILL make a difference!
