Throughout this time, I've learned that inhalation of nitrous oxide is a piece of the addiction epidemic that is flying well under the radar. People don't talk about it and many parents and family members are unfamiliar with it. Inhalation of nitrous oxide is, in fact, a silent killer. Many individuals in rehab and sober livings abuse it because it is 100% undetectable on drug tests. And so another addiction begins in plain sight.

I've received a number of petition comments from parents saying they've seen the little steel canisters scattered about their kids' car but had no idea what they are. Well, they once were full of nitrous oxide and with each inhale their kids' lives were in danger.  Moreover, huffing and driving (a common occurrence) --leads to sometimes fatal vehicular accidents because the driver passes out behind the wheel. 

As shown in this photo, the pressurized gas canister is encased in the metal holder and screwed in to the orange "cracker." Then, by pushing on the lever, (instead of being used to froth whipped cream on a latte,) this toxic gas is shot into a balloon which the user then inhales and hyperventilates until the drug has filled his lungs. Oxygen is cut off to his brain and many die of sudden sniffing death or stroke or heart attack.
