A recently leaked article has blown the whistle on the food companies lobbying to water down the EU commitment to reduce food waste 30% by 2025. This commitment would have legally obliged countries to reduce food waste to an ambitious level inside the next 10 years. Eve Mitchell of Food and Water Europe said "Corporate lobbying appears to have watered down the best ambitions for the circular economy concept” We need to ask our supermarkets to be honest on this issue. Why they are not standing up in the EU policy arena and asking for ambitious targets to be instated. When many of them profess to be working towards Zero Waste, why are they involved in closing down an agreement that would mark a clear path to achieve this?
