Petition updateSTOP the Renaming of Dundas in Toronto

Petition co-author is running for City Council

Dear Petitioners,

It has been a while since our last update, and as of this writing, the newly renamed “Sankofa Square” remains as unpopular and disliked as it was when Olivia Chow announced it on December 15, 2023.

Not only is the name widely loathed, but the Square has been bleeding revenue for years as the state of the area continues to decline. This grave miscalculation and assault on civic identity has cost taxpayers millions of dollars in hard costs and unrealized revenues. This sordid chapter must result in a rectification of this disingenuous and dishonest renaming. The reversal of the name change, and resulting revitalization of the Square can only happen with new leadership.

That is why we are happy to announce that the co-author of this petition, Daniel Tate, has decided to run for City Council in Ward 13, Toronto Centre. Tate recognizes that the incumbent councillor, Chris Moise, has caused much harm to the ward and, as the architect and cheerleader for the name change, must face a reckoning for these decisions.

Donations and volunteer sign-ups are graciously accepted.

Many thanks!

—Daniel and Jonny
