Part of a noteworthy comment made by Coun. Judy Brownoff, who told Saanich Voice Online – referring to the council motion of Jan. 8 on the issue of Amalgamation, “ I thought our residents focus is on housing, rebuilding environmental protection i.e. biodiversity, conservation strategy and transportation".
This particular quote is of relevance, for those of us trying to save the green space that was known as the Royal Oak Golf Course. Conservation and biodiversity, not large scale development projects are our interest. If this land can be kept in the ALR there may be a chance to keep it green for the use of all age groups. Whether as communal gardens, mixed with park like walking trails, that are already in place, having the old clubhouse turned into a nature house, senior daycare, handicap accesible outings, extension of Commonwealth Place outdoor activities....there are many options to look at.
This also corresponds with the comment previously posted by Coun. Leif Wegeland on enviromental issues. Saanich elections are this fall, let's make sure these councillors are reminded of these comments and held to them; that they vote on keeping this land within the ALR zoning, or voted out.
Politicians and rich developers shouldn't make all the decisions. Have your voice heard, sign this petition.
