Friends of Reed Park Members and Supporters,
Many of you have asked us for updates in the past few months on the Watershed Plan at Reed Park. Mayor Kirk Watson and members of the Watershed Team met with Friends of Reed Park representatives this past Friday to discuss the current status of that plan. We are glad to report that, for now, the City has heard us loud and clear, and the Watershed Plan is paused as Watershed’s engineers assess new options, including whether the project may be feasible at a different location than the Reed Park ball field. This is a process that will take some time and will require complicated engineering and feasibility studies. For the moment, we are grateful the City and the Watershed Department have heard the feedback from our neighborhood and are open to trying to accomplish their goals in another way. We firmly believe this project should only go forward when it is a “win-win” for the City, the neighborhood, the environment, and our beloved Reed Park.
We’d like to thank Mayor Watson for his leadership in bringing together many who have a stake in this issue. Please thank him yourself, too, and tell him how important Reed Park is to you. In the meantime, we are so thankful for your support—your calls, letters, signs, and love for Reed Park have made all the difference in getting this project paused and re-assessed. We hope to keep updating you with good news and will keep you in the loop as this process unfolds. Please stay in the loop by signing up for our newsletter here and following us on Instagram here. Thank you!
Best,
Friends of Reed Park
