Crossing Guards have NOT been reappointed yet

Highland Park Borough Council has not reappointed the current crossing guards yet. Typically before school starts every year, the current crossing guards are reappointed to their posts before the first day of school at the Boro Council meeting. The Boro Council meeting was on September 3rd, 2024 and the reappointment of the crossing guards was not on the agenda. This year the crossing guards have not been reappointed even though the first day of school was September 5th, 2024.

The crossing guards and their union representative met with the Boro Administrator and the Police Chief to address the issue of not being reappointed as detailed at the September 3rd, 2024 Boro Council meeting. The Boro Administrator has said that the current crossing guards would be reappointed at the next Borough Council meeting on September 17th, 2024. Both the Boro Administrator and the Police Chief also confirmed that they are still looking into the privatization of the Highland Park Crossing Guards at this time and that they have not yet formally introduced it as a resolution to the Council.

Currently Highland Park Crossing Guards are working at their posts with the promise that they will be reappointed at the September 17, 2024 Boro Council meeting at 7pm while talk of privatization continues. Would you still report to work on a promise knowing that you might lose your job sometime in the future? That's what Highland Park Crossing Guards are doing every day right now. Highland Park Crossing Guards are reporting to work every day and hoping to keep their jobs and officially be reappointed for the entire 2024-2025 school year even though they know that the Police Chief and the Boro Administrator want to privatize their jobs.
