Davie residents deserve transparency, fairness, and trust in every decision that shapes our community.
It has come to light that Daniel J. Alfonso, a member of the Town Council, also holds a senior leadership role at Nova Southeastern University, the same institution directly benefiting from the proposed 7-story dorm development currently under review.
⚖️ Why This Matters
This situation raises a serious concern about a potential conflict of interest.
Even if no wrongdoing has occurred, the appearance of conflict alone is enough to:
Undermine public trust
Call into question the fairness of the decision-making process
Create doubt about whether residents’ interests are being fully represented
When decisions impact:
Our homes
Our property values
Our children’s community spaces
Our quality of life
👉 There must be zero ambiguity about impartiality.
📢 What We Are Calling For
In the interest of transparency and integrity, we respectfully call on the Town of Davie to take immediate action:
✅ At Minimum:
Full recusal of Daniel Alfonso from any discussion, influence, or vote related to this project
🔍 Additionally:
A formal review of potential conflicts of interest related to this matter
⚠️ If Necessary:
Further action to ensure that all decisions are made free from perceived bias or competing interests
🧠 This Is Bigger Than One Project
This is not just about the proposed dorm.
This is about:
Protecting the integrity of local government
Ensuring decisions are made for residents, not institutions
Preserving trust between the community and its leaders
✊ A Message to Our Leaders
We are not making accusations, we are asking for accountability and transparency.
Davie residents expect:
Clear ethical boundaries
Fair representation
Decisions made without conflict or influence
Anything less risks eroding the foundation of trust in our town.
