Daniel Quirk started this petition to NCTD Board Member and Del Mar City Council Member Dave Druker and

Say NO to the fences in Del Mar, Encinitas, and Oceanside.

As of 10/19, we have learned that the fencing plan also includes a 2.5 mile section in Encinitas and a 0.7 mile section in Oceanside. The specific areas include milepost 235.1-237.6 (La Costa overpass Bridge - Encinitas Blvd Overpass Bridge) and milepost 227.6-228.3 (Oceanside Blvd - Buena Vista Lagoon Bridge), as well as milepost 244.1-245.5 (Del Mar Bluffs).

The North County Transit District (NCTD) controls the tracks and plans to fence off these three areas in 2019  This will dramatically limit coastal access to thousands of north county residents and visitors. They will also be terrible eyesores and a waste of taxpayer dollars.

This will be a great loss for the entire community. We cannot allow this to happen.

The NCTD press release below notes it already has a grant to build the fences. The NCTD is trying to blame people using the trails along the tracks for the recent bluff collapses. This is nonsense. If anything, the significant vibrations from the trains themselves are likely contributing to the destabilization, as is wind and water erosion. Ultimately, the tracks need to be removed from the bluffs.
