Over the past few days, British politics has been consumed by yet another damaging scandal.

A senior appointment, clear warnings that were ignored, resignations by proxy, and a Prime Minister insisting he was misled.

As the Mandelson story unravelled, rumours flourished, trust collapsed, and public attention was dragged away from the real challenges facing the country.

Support Truth

We are all tired of this. We want a government that works and one that is clearly trying to make life better. Instead, repeated failures of honesty are deepening cynicism and driving more people towards the far right.

-When truth is treated as optional, scandals spiral.
-When accountability is unclear, conspiracy takes hold.
-And when people stop believing what they are told, democracy itself is weakened.

This is the result of a political culture where misleading the public has had no effective consequences.

That damage spreads quickly. It leaves people feeling angry, shut out, and unheard.

Why our Hillsborough Law amendment matters

This is why our amendment to the Hillsborough Law would end the current situation where politicians can knowingly say things that are untrue, wait for the pressure to pass, and face no meaningful consequences.

This is not about catching people out for mistakes. This amendment is about setting a clear standard that honesty in public life is not optional.

It will not fix everything. But it is a real step towards changing a system that keeps rewarding evasion and spin.

Support Our Campaign

Why now matters

Because of a delay to the legislation, and with the fallout from the Mandelson scandal, there is a window to push the Government to accept this amendment. That window will close quickly.

Thanks to supporters like you, we are already well on the way to reach our £5,000 target for this campaign. The support so far has gone well beyond our expectations. That support has helped us get moving, but there is still work to do and not much time to do it.

Your donations fund:

  • briefings for MPs and Peers so they understand why this amendment matters now
  • sustained media and parliamentary pressure so it cannot be quietly sidelined
  • support for allies inside Parliament arguing that honesty must be enforceable, not just expected.

Prime Minister Starmer promised to clean up politics and this measure will actually do so.

If you are able to donate, or to give again if you already have, you will be helping turn this moment of political failure into lasting reform.
