Dear supporter,

We were at the Labour Party Conference this week making a powerful case for a more compassionate and civil politics.

In the face of the multiple crises our nation and our world faces - war, climate change and rising inequality our Co-director, Jennifer Nadel, together with Labour MP, Kim Leadbeater, the sister of murdered MP, Jo Cox, our co-director, Jennifer Nadel and our Parliamentary Lead, Anya Sizer.

At the fringe Jennifer highlighted the pressing challenges we face – from climate catastrophe and global conflict to deepening inequality here in the UK. In the midst of all this, she asked a vital question: what can civility do to help?

Civility as the Way Forward
Civility is where real change begins. It means refusing hate, rejecting personal attacks, and choosing to listen and act with kindness – even when we disagree. Civility is not just about politeness; it’s about creating space for solutions. It breaks through division and allows us to move beyond conflict to real collaboration.

Civility is the mustard seed that can begin to break through the layers of hate and division which block us from being able to create the transformation that’s needed.  Civility creates the space for de-escalation – to begin to start to de-trigger the political space from its current conflict,

Jennifer’s message at conference was clear: with civility, we can build a politics that is compassionate, inclusive, and focused on solving problems, not just winning arguments.

What Can You Do?
For several years, in partnership with the Jo Cox Foundation, we’ve championed a Civility Pledge for election candidates. Now, we’re expanding it to include everyone engaged in politics.

We invite you to sign the pledge and help us create a more respectful, compassionate, and less divisive political space.
