Dear NYHL Parents and Families,

Monday night's meeting of the Metro Nashville City Council, the Council voted to approve the Nashville Predators’ proposal for the Predators to upgrade and manage the ice operations at the Centennial Sportsplex beginning early next year. On the heels of this vote, we are excited to share with our entire Nashville Youth Hockey League community that the Sportsplex will remain the home of the NYHL for years to come.

The NYHL Board has worked with the Predators’ management team for the past several months with a goal of entering into a long-term contract that will allow the NYHL to continue running all of its programs independently, at similar times, and with similar ice prices. The Predators are committed to the NYHL’s continued operation at the Sportsplex, and the lease that the Council approved last night includes language recognizing that commitment.

Most importantly, (1) the NYHL will continue to operate independently, making its own programming decisions, as a non-profit, with its own board, hockey directors and coaches; (2) our contract with the Predators will allow the NYHL to continue operating all of its programs at the times we operated our programs this year; and (3) the ice cost for our programs will remain the same for next year and then will only increase moderately in subsequent years. In addition, the NYHL will continue to have office space, storage space, and a Flyers locker room at the Sportsplex. Our contract will include other provisions, but we wanted to share these essential points with you now, in light of the Metro Council’s approval Monday night.

We understand this process has involved a great deal of anxiety, frustration, skepticism, and concern. We have kept all of these concerns at the forefront of our minds during our work with the Predators’ management team, and we greatly appreciate that the Predators have addressed those concerns head on by consistently responding with a commitment to preserving the NYHL, as we know and love it, for the future. We look forward to many years of a positive partnership between the NYHL and the Nashville Predators.

Our Board will remain in active contract discussions with the Predators for the coming few months, and we will send periodic updates. The Board will continue to do everything in our power to advocate for the NYHL, to operate with transparency, and to make decisions that serve our players and families now and for years to come.

Thank you for your continued trust and support. We look forward to many more seasons of NYHL hockey at the Centennial Sportsplex.

Sincerely,

NYHL Board of Directors
