Hi Everyone,
I wish to thank each and every one of you for your continued support. Total numbers are quickly approaching 40,000 signatories, which seamed impossible not that long ago!
A number of you have cc'ed the petition's Gmail address when you raised this matter with your MPs - more emails to MPs would be better of course! Graciously, I send my thanks to each of you who have already submitted emails to Parliament, while encouraging others to take a few minutes to use the template I have included within the petition statement, or something else of your own choosing, to your constituency MP (which are also listed).
The petition has been submitted to the Mayor of London at the London Assembly meeting on Thursday last week - I was in attendance for that Assembly meeting. This is the largest ever petition formally submitted to the Mayor of London at Assembly! The petition was featured in many news/media outlets by last Friday, including the BBC and Evening Standard. I have not closed the petition yet, because awareness needs raising and further steps can be taken to challenge the TfL Board's decision to set these tolls. I would rather not delve into those steps right now.
To highlight the concerns about awareness of the toll plans and to quote Alex Williams, (TfL’s customer director): “We will be tracking this, literally every day. We need to recognise that this is a big change to the east London highway network. A lot of people don’t know it’s coming, but we need to give it time to bed down because it will lead to quite a few changes in behaviour, just not around the tunnel but across the whole of east London".” (Source: https://greenwichwire.co.uk/2024/12/04/blackwall-tunnel-and-silvertown-tunnel-tolls-signed-off-by-tfls-board/
