As this will be the last update we would like to say Thank You.

Thank you all for signing the petition which we believe has been a key for the small win we have all achieved. We have had so many comments regading the petition and that the support shown has not been seen before, from signatures to submissions to applause in the council chamber on completing the petition submissions. This is thanks to you all..

We delivered the petition with your 2225 signatures to the council on the 5th June 2024. We were very honoured to deliver these for you all and was very humbled to have a full public gallery for our submissions.

Rates Decision:

From the massive community feedback it seems there will be a decrease in the rates hike in the 3rd year from 19.98% down to 13.89%. This is a small win but by no means what would have been helpful to the community. It seems from the deliberations meeting the council cannot reduce the first 2 years due to its financial mismanagement and currently being in a negative financial position. Inconsistencies abound from the UHCC, such as UHCC error of $10m is minor yet an error by Wellington Water to the tune of $1.3m is “just incompetent”.

Here are the link to the Decision made by council.

Rates Calculation:

To calculate your UHCC rates : (This does not include Greater Wellington Rates which are Y1:19.80%, Y2:13.40%, Y3:13.40%)

Year 1 - 19.93%
Year 2 - 19.96%
Year 3 - 13.89%  - Was going to be 19.88%

For those unsure how to work out your rates hope the below helps?

EXAMPLE..
Current Rates  NNNNN  x 1.1993 = XXXXXX
Second year    XXXXXX   x 1.1998 = YYYYYY
Third year        YYYYYY   x 1.1389 = ZZZZZZ

$2176.00 x 1.1993   = $2609.68
$2609.68 x 1.1998   = $3130.57
$3130.57 x 1.1389   = $3556.40

Surprising Facts:

- At present H2O will cost $97m excluding the hydro pool.
- H2O has 49% more water area and UH has to fill it while we have a water crisis.
- Wellington Water has asked for $39m from UHCC over the next 3 years, which includes the $1.3m Wellington Water error.
- If UHCC don't want to answer a question they will either just not answer or will stonewall you.
- The UHCC CEO earns $321,964 of our ratepayers dollars per year.
- All Councillors backed down on the Mayor and CEO's disregard for council process on sending support letter to Ministers without full council approval.
- Looks like the Council will be spending $60m on assisting developers with infrastructure. e.g. replacing Silverstream Bridge, paving the way for extra traffic from the Silverstream Spur development.
- NZCIS a company in its own right has tried twice to get the Council to apply for an $800k grand from Pelorus Trust for Movable Grandstand seats which then UHCC would pay storage for.
- UHCC are telling the public they are not happy with Wellington Water but yet when you watch the meetings and see documentation, they are not being proactive on holding Wellington Water to account.

Obviously there is more to these and back stories but these are snippets of what we have learnt through this process.
