Stop the mass killing of Amharas and Orthodox Christians in Ethiopia
Stop the mass killing of Amharas and Orthodox Christians in Ethiopia
The Issue
It is horrifying to face the reality of what is happening in western Wolega and the area historically known as Arsi in Ethiopia. As an Orthodox Christian, I am deeply troubled and saddened by the ongoing atrocities committed against my community. We, the Amharas and Orthodox Christians, particularly those who belong to both groups, are being targeted systematically for our identity and beliefs.
The situation is dire. Innocent people, including infants under the age of one, are being brutally murdered. Genocide is not just a word—it is the grim reality we are enduring. Churches, our sacred sanctuaries of prayer and peace, are being burned to the ground. There is a mountain of evidence: firsthand testimonies, chilling videos, and photographic evidence that document these heinous acts of violence. Yet, this brutality persists unabated.
We cannot turn away from this horrific truth nor can the world. This is not just a regional issue; it is a matter of basic human rights and dignity. The individuals responsible for these acts of violence must be held accountable, and international attention must be brought to bear to ensure the safety and freedom of those being persecuted.
I call upon the Ethiopian government to put an immediate end to this violence and to protect all citizens, regardless of their ethnicity or religious beliefs. Moreover, it is imperative for the global community—governments, organizations, and human rights activists—to step forward, condemn this violence in the strongest terms, and take concrete actions to ensure the protection of these vulnerable communities.
Every day that passes, more lives are lost, and more families are torn apart. We cannot afford to stand by and witness this cycle of hatred and destruction. The future of a harmonious and multicultural Ethiopia, where all can live in peace and dignity, depends on us taking action now.
I urge everyone who reads this to raise their voice against these unspeakable acts of violence against the Amhara and Orthodox Christian communities in Ethiopia. Let us demand that justice be served, that peace be restored, and that the basic rights of every human being—regardless of their faith or ethnicity—are upheld. Please sign this petition to show your support and to urge those in power to act before more lives are tragically lost.
