Greetings Supporter of the 'Stop the Maangamizi: We Charge Genocide/Ecocide!' Campaign (SMWeCGEC)
We in the International Steering Committee of the SMWeCGEC (ISC-SMWeCGEC) bring you disturbing news about the detention of a courageous activist based in Senegal who has recently been detained for publicly burning a 5,000 CFA Franc; a symbolic protest action against the CFA Franc which marks a decisive turning point in the struggle to end the use of CFA Francs.
You can find out more about the CFA Franc and how it is a form of monetary imperialism in the following links:

You may be wondering why we are sharing this info with you, well, one of the aims of the SMWeCGEC is "to amplify the voices of communities of reparatory justice interest who are engaged in resistance to the various manifestations of the Maangamizi today". Quite clearly, the imposition of the CFA Franc is a manifestation of the Maangamizi today and so it is important to reach out in solidarity to those who are engaged in these acts of civil disobedience and modern-day Maangamizi resistance.
We of the ISC-SMWeCGEC wrote the following open letter to President Macky Sall of the Republic of Sénégal regarding the arrest and detention of activist Kémi Séba.
There are some videos attached to the link with the open letter however they are in French. Irrespective of any language barriers, it is important to amplify the voices of those engaged in acts of resistance to the Maangamizi, wherever they may be.
Since the incarceration of Kémi Séba last Friday 25th August, there has been a huge outpouring of support from younger activists, human rights organisations and social movements across Afrika and the Afrikan Diaspora. The Free Kémi Séba Campaign led by the NGO which he is also the President of, i.e. Urgences Panafricanistes, is calling for mobilisations across the world to protest against his detention and demand his immediate release.
Kémi Séba is due in court later today to answer charges under the Penal Code of Sénégal. The consequences of this action are serious, if convicted Kémi Séba could receive a custodial sentence of between five and ten years.
Urgences Panafricanistes are requesting that you show your support by using the photo (in the link at bottom of page) and hashtag #LiberezKemiSeba on all your networks (Facebook, Twitter, Instagram etc.). They remind us that "history is written in the present" and also that we must "Free Africa or death will prevail."
If you want to find out more and try googling Kémi Séba or Urgences Panafricanistes, do so using google chrome which gives an option to translate search items into English in the top right-hand corner of the toolbar.
We recommend you read the following update that is given by Héry Djéhuty, Coordinator of Urgences Panafricanistes
