The Army Corps of Engineers is again considering replacement of the shipping lock on the Industrial Canal, and held open houses during the second week of December for citizens who would be impacted by this 15+ year construction boondoggle should Congress allocate the funds.

The long-delayed project is undergoing a new $2.8 million study to "better identify its costs and impacts." The lock replacement is now estimated at $1.4 billion and would disrupt life as we know it for my lifetime! Many of those living in this neighborhood will not be alive long enough to experience its "benefits."

At the four neighborhood meetings, there was overwhelming opposition to the Corps' plans. So much so, a few of the PR representatives refused to attend the remaining sessions, having encountered unanticipated hostilty from residents of the already beleaguered Lower Ninth Ward. Stop this project!
