This is a tapestry of the historic St. Claude Bridge created by an artist whose home and studio are located near the Industrial Canal. The Bascule bridge is eligible for listing on the National Register for Historic Places, but would be destroyed to expand the canal for increased barge traffic. The neighboring homes would be subjected to constant pile driving and dredging of toxic sediments, in addition to trucks and heavy equipment for years of construction. A longer access ramp would remove some homes in the peaceful area and impact its aesthetics.
