HEALTH AND SAFETY NEW REASON TO KILL MUTE SWANS

We learned today, 04/14/14, after we appealed a Freedom of Information Act denial for information, that the DNR is using "health and safety" as a reason to kill mute swans to get around petitions and resolutions. We questioned the slaughter of a mute swan on Middle Straits Lake in West Bloomfield, because we knew that the swan was tormented by a jet skier and that no petition was filed with West Bloomfield Township to have the swan removed, nor was a resolution passed by the Township to kill swans. When we requested the permit and the agents name that approved it, the DNR stated that they had no info in their files. The USDA was also contacted. They were the ones that said the reason the swan was shot to death was for health and safety reasons and that a petition or a resolution was not required. These agencies seem to be making up there own rules as they go. States such as New York, please keep watching because these false reasons will be coming your way as well.
