92 MUTE SWANS KILLED IN MICHIGAN THIS WEEK

Karen StamperCommerce Twp, MI, United States
Dec 17, 2011
Two lakes in Michigan killed a combined total of 92 swans this week. Lincoln Lake (53) in Kent County and Ryerson Lake (39) in Newaygo Cty. Did these people even bother to ask the DNR how they came up with their state wide count > they use one plane that flies over the entire state in a week with someone using binoculars to count them. Did they ask if there were any Michigan studies to support their claims that the swans, that have been here since the 1800's, are destroying the habitats and vegetation in our lakes> they admit in The April Oakland Lakefront Magazine that there are no studies. The studies they are using are from Maryland. The state has not one natural lake. Did they ask the DNR how many they have killed since 2006> DNR waterfowl specialist, Barbara Avers, says they do not have very good records of that. These lakefront people are selfish and could care a less about the swans. They just want their lake the way they want it. Please continue to forward this petition.
