The Issue

In recent years, there has been a growing concern over the introduction of digital IDs in the UK, purportedly to streamline administrative processes and enhance security. However, the potential impact on individual freedoms and privacy cannot be understated. As a resident of the UK, I believe that digital IDs pose a significant threat to our liberty.

Digital IDs have the ability to track our every move, collate our personal data, and grant unprecedented power to government and corporate entities. While advocates for digital IDs argue their efficiency and convenience, it’s crucial to recognise the risks to personal privacy and freedom. The Universal Declaration of Human Rights assures individuals the right to privacy, yet digital IDs threaten to infringe upon this fundamental freedom.

Countries that have implemented digital ID systems, such as India, have experienced numerous challenges, including identity theft and breaches in data security. In Estonia, a breach of its digital ID security system in 2017 served as a stark reminder of the vulnerabilities inherent in these systems. The UK should not follow these examples without addressing the glaring risks posed to personal security.

Moreover, digital IDs could pave the way for an intrusive state where personal freedoms are compromised, leading to a society under constant surveillance. This is not the UK we envision. We must act now to protect our rights and maintain the privacy and freedom that defines us as a nation.

I urge the government to halt plans for implementing digital IDs and to consider alternative methods that protect both national security and individual liberties. I call on the citizens of the UK, stakeholders, and human rights organisations to stand with me in opposing this intrusive technology.

Please sign this petition to stop the introduction of digital IDs in the UK. Together, we can ensure our liberties are preserved for future generations.
