The province has become aware of the planned Crow and Magpie shoot being hosted by the Woodlands and District Wildlife Association on April 12, 2025. The Province of Manitoba does not support or condone killing contests or other organized events in which animals are hunted purely for sport or prizes.
Although not supported by the Province, these types of activities are not in violation of existing wildlife related legislation or The Wildlife Act. The Wildlife Branch is taking your concerns and correspondence into consideration as part of the Branch’s standard review process of existing wildlife legislation.
Participant and resident safety can be a concern for these types of events. Conservation officers will be patrolling the landscape on April 12, 2025, to encourage safe hunting practices and ensure compliance with natural resources regulations.
The Woodlands and District Wildlife Association is not part of nor, do they receive funding from the provincial government. Any concerns over the hosting of the event should be addressed to them directly at (204)-383-0215.
