Streetsblog Chicago has reported the latest news on the Illiana Tollroad. The biggest news is that the Federal Highway Administration approved the project's environmental impact study so that IDOT and InDOT are now free to begin soliciting construction bids. This however, is not an endorsement of the project on the part of the FHWA as reported by Streetsblog's writer Steven Vance. The project merely met the FHWA's minimum requirements for approval. Beyond this point the federal government has no investments in the project. The project could still be shelved by Gov.-elect Bruce Rauner. At the moment he is the most likely force to override the wishes of IDOT and InDOT. The hope of opponents on all fronts is that Rauner will kill the project based on its fiscal irresponsibility. He has stayed relatively mum on the topic up to now though. That is why it is so important to get all the voices we can now. If we want to show Rauner why this project is a problem on all levels we need to get the voices in and complete this position to show him all sorts of Ilinoisans oppose the Illiana. http://chi.streetsblog.org/2014/12/12/could-rauner-stop-the-illiana-boondoggle-sure-but-will-he/
