Tell Job Boards to Stop Helping ICE Hire Medical Staff

Our allies at Doctors for Camp Closure, led by Dr. Kate Sugarman, have launched a petition calling on Indeed, LinkedIn, and healthcare job boards to stop helping ICE detention centers recruit doctors, nurses, and other medical professionals.

Dr. Sugarman has spent more than two decades working with people held in immigration detention, conducting forensic medical evaluations and documenting evidence of torture, abuse, injury, and illness. Her work has taken her inside detention facilities across the country, where she has witnessed how inadequate medical care contributes to preventable suffering, serious illness, and death.

She has also been a leading voice in our fight against the proposed ICE detention center in Washington County, working closely with Hagerstown Rapid Response and our allies to warn about its risks to detainees, staff, local healthcare systems, and the broader community. At one of our protests, she read a letter signed by more than 50 Western Maryland healthcare workers opposing the facility on public health grounds.

ICE cannot operate mass detention centers without healthcare workers. By advertising these positions, job platforms are helping ICE and its contractors staff and sustain a system that Dr. Sugarman has spent decades exposing.
