Blog Post: Deer Culls Rip People Apart; Volatile Hostility Surging on Social Media

Friends of Deer,
I came across this illustration "Alice and the Fawn" by Sir John Tenniel from Lewis Carroll's 1871 book, Through the Looking-Glass. After reading the entire passage in the book, it reminded me how important it is for people to build a connection with deer where humans are not the center of existence and the supreme authority.
It inspired my recent blog post about how the media sensationalizes "deer overpopulation” as if it were an apocalyptic crisis. Social Media responses to deer culls reveal a severe division between people who support killing deer and those who support using humane deer fertility control. Instead of thoughtful discussion, the majority of responses are offensive, inflammatory, and trigger anger and verbal abuse.
How do you think we can create active listening and direct problem-solving?
