The term “FREE RANGE” is one I’ve never liked, it’s over use by the commercials will come to its unnatural end!! The aim of its use for commercial production tries to give the impression of “HAPPY FOOD” and that’s just about what it is, an impression.
The problem we face is one of planning, we are told objecting to an application on these grounds is not a planning concern and to some extent I see the point of this, we have to be mindful of planning constraints and the need to put our point across that carries weight and merit.
On that basis, we need to be mindful of the planning issues that do carry clout, I have listed some issues you may wish to pick up on when submitting your objection and please do submit, its just about the best thing we can do.
1, TRANSPORT: heavy goods vehicles on small narrow lanes, increase in movements, pollution from exhaust fumes, unsustainable transporting of 700,000 eggs per week out of county.
2, POLLUTION RISK, HUMAN: The unacceptable risk to human health from airborne, noise and odour pollution, the unacceptable risk to ground water which supplies drinking water.
3, POLLUTION RISK, ENVIRONMENTAL: The site suffers from historic and severe run-off, the water will enter the local river system and will cause pollution. The ground water pollution will have a major impact on ecology and cause major damage to the Drym valley and Hayle river systems. Airborne, noise and odour pollution.
4, LANDSCAPE: The visual impact of an industrial scale mega farm in open countryside will not enhance the environment, it will do the opposite.
5, EXISTING PRODUCERS: The industrial scale production of eggs from this site is expected to be around 100,000 per day, this will have a detrimental effect on the small local producers, and this will be a threat to Cornwall that will not be acceptable economically.
These are just a few points worth considering.
We are gaining objections on the Council’s portal, this is the only way we will be in a strong position to stop the threat of misery to these hens. I keep banging on about getting an objection in,but, this is the key to this petition, don’t let Cornwall have its first “Mega Farm”, it’s the start of the ROT!!
