Petition Update: Protecting Children From Viral Fight Content on Social Media

First, I would like to thank everyone who has signed and shared this petition. While we are still a long way from our goal, I am grateful for every person who has taken the time to support this cause.

Unfortunately, the problem that inspired this petition continues. Every day, social media users upload and share videos showing children and teenagers being punched, kicked, slammed to the ground, and humiliated in front of their peers. Some of these videos receive hundreds of thousands or even millions of views.

What concerns me most is that many of these accounts appear to encourage people to submit fight videos because violence generates attention, engagement, and, in some cases, revenue. Children and teenagers should not be used as entertainment content.

Behind every viral fight video is a real person. The victim may suffer physical injuries, emotional trauma, embarrassment, and long-term consequences that follow them long after the incident itself. In some cases, head injuries and other injuries sustained during these assaults can be severe or even fatal.

I am not opposed to legitimate news reporting when a serious incident occurs. The public has a right to be informed. What I oppose is the routine sharing, promotion, and monetization of videos showing minors being assaulted for entertainment purposes.
