Thank you for your support of this important cause. In my last update, I let you know that we reached out to the Minister for Industrial Relations. Shortly after sending through our petition, a representative from his office contacted me and we setup a meeting that also included a representative from the Department of Employment and Workplace Relations. In preparation for the meeting, I supplied them with several stories of exploitation.
In the meeting we discussed the extent of the problem and the damage it was causing to so many people's lives all across Australia. There was a recognition from each of the representatives of how serious the problem of Christian worker exploitation is. We discussed several strategies that would move us towards resolving it. The strategies we discussed were outlined in the petition introduction. We also acknowledged some challenges in realising those strategies.
At the end of the meeting, the representative from the Minister of Industrial Relations agreed to raise the issue internally to discuss what options there might be to move forward. I'm hopeful that this will lead to some concrete actions from the government that will move us forward in resolving this problem. I'm realistic that this will take time but I'm optimistic that with the level of support that we have and the serousness of this problem the government will take action.
