Le problème

With an increase in the rise of Biphobia despite Bisexual visibility month, Bisexual people on social media came together to raise an important question, and if possible, be able to make a change and further push Bisexual identity in the mainstream.

Two interlocking female symbols (⚢) represent a lesbian or the lesbian community, and two interlocking male symbols (⚣) a gay male or the gay male community. These symbols first appeared in the 1970s.

The combined male-female symbol (⚦) is used to represent androgyne or transgender people; when additionally combined with the female (♀) and male (♂) symbols (⚧) it indicates gender inclusivity, and/or a transgender symbol.

All the other communities shown above have their own symbols translated out for them through written script on electronics. As of recently discussion has risen on social media reguarding the lack of possibility for individuals identifying as Bisexual to use their own symbol in text (symbol is shown above). Such remarks raised the following question; Why must we further alienate Bisexual people from other Queer communities? A lot of us feel as if our identities aren't important, don't matter or are simply a transition period from one ″solid″ monosexual identity to the other, and it is only natural for platforms to accomodate all of their users as to make sure that they feel seen and listened to. We only want one simple thing, to be able to be represented properly and signal to other Bisexual people that we're here, and we matter.

Such a lack of representation eventually created conflict and tension with other 2SLBQTQIA+ members, with such people accusing us of stealing their labels and visuals when we tried finding alternatives to signal to other people our Queerness. It is only natural that we get to be able to use our own, as to not only clear up misunderstandings, but to show that you care about the causes you're trying to represent.
