Hi everyone,
Thank you so much for your incredible support of this petition to date. The message is spreading far and wide.
I have been speaking with LADbible Australia who are fighting to have the Great Barrier Reef conferred with Australian citizenship; and in doing so, gain it the same rights and protections as every Australian, most importantly of which is the "right to life".
Please sign and share their petition too: http://bitly.com/CitizenReef
The Creative Director of LADbible Australia reached out to me a few days ago, when he read this petition to try to stop the dumping of a million tonnes of toxic dredge sludge onto/into the Great Barrier Reef Marine Park Reserve - Australia's fragile, threatened, magnificent jewel of a marine ecosystem (shamefully, due to a legislative loophole).
LADbible has colossal global online reach as a massive (social) media organisation appealing predominantly to a younger audience: "LADbible publishes a diverse range of original and user generated content – spanning editorial, video, documentary and live. Since August 2014, LADbible have posted over 6,800 videos and generated in excess of 41.8 billion views on Facebook."
All support for their petition directly notifies The Department of Home Affairs, as well as Minister for the Environment, Sussan Ley, Minister for Citizenship, David Coleman, and the Prime Minister of Australia, Scott Morrison.
If we can make the Great Barrier Reef an Australian citizen and recognise its fundamental importance and vital contribution to the environmental health and well-being of Australia (and the globe), then the government is obliged to make decisions in the interest of its health, as it is with all Australian citizens.
We would be grateful if you would join the movement to make this beloved Aussie icon an Australian citizen, and help protect the Great Barrier Reef's right to life.
Thank you so much again!
Best wishes,
Natalie
