SCAR representatives met with CFX Fri, Sept. 20, 2024, to discuss their next steps for the Southport Connector Project Development study. CFX has listened to SCAR’s concerns and will be incorporating our concerns in the new Project Development study . These include: 1. Plans to widen the local lanes of Cypress Parkway to three lanes to alleviate congestion on the local roads. Their original plan was for only two local lanes, which would not improve local conditions or alleviate congestion on local roads. 2. Incorporate alternatives to the Great Wall of Poinciana by including bridge designs as part of the planning to minimize the division of the community. 3. Include a community impact study as part of the new Project Development Study to better understand the impact of the road on the community. 4.Incorporate sound studies to determine current sound levels and plan for sound walls at ground levels as well as along the elevated portion of the roadway to minimize the impact from noise. Poinciana residents will not need to do these sound studies. They will be done to measure levels prior to construction and determine what level of sound mitigation is needed. 5. Incorporate a study to determine the impacts of increased pollutants to measure current and projected levels and devise plans to mitigate impacts. They will be meeting with key interests groups, such as emergency responders, hospital leaders, business leaders, as well as many other community leaders to be sure all concerns are being heard. Public meetings will also be scheduled in the near future. You can see the presentation we were shown today at: https://www.movepoinciana.com
