Please take a minute to read this – it is very important. The meeting to potentially decide the forever fate of the tranquil quiet green space known as Sleepy Hollow and therefore by extension another favorite area of retreat and relaxation - Sesqui Drive in the County Park, is quickly approaching.

Sleepy Hollow is a 60-acre wooded area known best for its trails and streams and one of the last treasured roads where if you are headed to the walking trails in your car with your family and dog, you can enjoy the sight of horses walking on the road in the other direction.  We grin and bear this wooded dirt road as we navigate through the areas of dips and sink holes as a result of the 100 year old room and pillar mine that exists under our Sleepy Hollow Road that leads to its many beautiful nature, walking and biking trails.  Sleepy Hollow Road is the last area that gives South Park that special feeling like you are traveling back in time!  Shame on us for even considering another cookie cutter housing development that destroys the last of our special places!

And so many of us love the beautiful peaceful area that surrounds Sesqui Drive.  It’s a favorite place for walking, bike riding, hiking, picnics, and it’s one of a kind view of the buffalo family.  And make no mistake, the beautiful, noise adverse buffaloes’ existence could very well be threatened with this massive development less than 500 feet away from them.  These peaceful and tranquil areas are definitely at risk for being gone from us and future generations.  The 60 acres of trees and green space will be leveled and replaced with houses.  We can’t be the generation that allowed this to happen!

So many always thought this area was a part of the county park – it’s not, but it should be.  The great news – it could soon be a part of the county park forever if we can find a way to defeat this latest proposal.  We have worked closely with the property owners, county officials, the Allegheny Land Trust, and other strategic leaders to ensure we can move swiftly as soon as this property is no longer under contract.

We need to make our voices heard.  The many issues include:

·       Significant traffic congestion

·       Higher taxes for bigger schools

·       More houses, less business meaning higher taxes

·       Significant storm water, drainage, erosion, and flooding issues

·       Loss of more strategic green space

·       Loss of the buffalo family and preserve due to excessive noise

·       Increased township litigation risk w/ subsidence issues on Sleepy Hollow Road

Please email and call the township officials listed below.  The Planning Commission Meeting is Wednesday, March 27th at 7 pm.  If the Planning Commission votes to recommend approval of the proposal, the final decision may be made by the South Park Township Board of Supervisors on Monday, April 8th at 7 pm.  PLEASE MAKE YOUR VOICES HEARD BEFORE IT’S TOO LATE!!
