Acrodipsas is a genus of butterfly endemic to Australia. There are eleven known species. The eleventh species to be named, Violacea, has only been found on the summit of the mountains known as Commodore Peak, Captains Mountain approximately 10km south of Millmerran Queensland Australia.
Now that the location of the Acrodipsas Violacea butterfly is confirmed, work is underway to list the species as endangered due to the limited numbers and single known location.
A submission has been made to develop the adjoining area into a quarry that will potentially destroy the only known habitat to this rarest species of Acrodipsas butterfly in the world.
There is also great concern of the proposed sites expansion area into the state forest where there is also a significant number of important, valued and protected specimens of native grass trees.
