Over 400 Signatures! Our Next Steps for Doane Road & an Important Transparency Update
Dear Neighbours and Supporters,
First and foremost, thank you.
Because our community refused to look away following the heartbreaking tragedy at Leslie Street and Doane Road, our petition has officially crossed over 400 signatures on Change.org!
Our united voice proved that grassroots advocacy works:
- Traffic signals are officially confirmed for 2027.
- The intersection improvement design has been expedited.
- A decade of delays has finally been stopped.
Next Steps: The 2027 Capital Budget
Securing a commitment from Regional staff is a major milestone, but our work is not done yet. The next critical step is ensuring the Doane Road items are formally approved in York Region's 2027 Capital Budget by Regional Council.

As you know, East Gwillimbury will participate in a municipal election this October, and our incoming Mayor will represent our town at Regional Council. As the petition organizer, I will present this petition directly to whoever is elected and ask for their absolute commitment to advocating for our safety and locking in this funding.

Candidate Disclosure & Community Transparency
Organizing this petition alongside hundreds of local families reinforced that East Gwillimbury needs proactive leadership that understands municipal infrastructure, knows how capital works budgets operate, and will fight for our safety before tragedies occur.
In the spirit of complete transparency, I want to share that I have officially registered as a candidate for Ward 2 Councillor (Sharon & Queensville) in the upcoming October 26 municipal election in East Gwillimbury.
