200+ Signatures & Council Referral: Escalating Our Demands to the Commissioner of Public

Hello Everyone, 

Thank you! We have officially surpassed 200 signatures on our petition to demand immediate safety measures and expediting the Doane Road Reconstruction at Leslie Street. This incredible milestone shows York Region that our community stands united on this critical public safety issue.

Here is where we currently stand: On May 7, 2026, Regional Council formally referred our safety demands to the Public Works (Transportation Services) staff for review.

Because we cannot afford to let this stall in bureaucratic delays, I have sent a direct follow-up to Laura McDowell, the Commissioner of Public Works. In that correspondence, I requested three urgent actions on behalf of our community:

• Direct Accountability: We requested the name and contact information of the specific project manager handling this file so we can communicate with them directly.
• Technical Action: We formally asked for confirmation that staff have initiated a traffic signal warrant study under the rigorous Ontario Traffic Manual (OTM) Book 12 guidelines.
• Public Transparency: We demanded that Public Works submit a comprehensive report back to Regional Council detailing their findings and recommended next steps, ensuring this process remains a matter of public record.
