Today is 1st September so the Autumnal Equinox is this month, meaning that it is this month where daylight deteriorates the fastest out of any month throughout the year.

This is actually worse than the darkest of winter, because by December 1st you are well adjusted to the lack of daylight and December 1st means there is literally daylight at the end of the tunnel!
