Petition updateStop the data centre on the bank of the Tamar river

Sadly the hyperscale AI data centre on the Tamar River has been approved. The legal fight Begins NOW

Thank you, for your on going support.

Sadly,  today’s update isn’t a good one.
The proposed Hyperscale AI factory on the banks of the Tamar River has been approved through George Town Council, under planning regulations from 1993.

Yes 1993 rules to assess a technology that hadn’t been dreamed of in 1993!

We fought hard to bring community awareness to the issue however the council said their hands were tied.

They told the gallery that they had no choice but to approve it, as they didn’t want Council to have to pay the legal fees if the developer appealed.
The mayor then went on to tell the community that we were welcome to appeal… and foot the bill for the legal fees ourselves.

Sadly here we are.  We have formed a local community association called the Environmental Awareness Association Inc. and today we formally lodged our appeal to the Tasmania planning tribunal or TASCAT.

We are not going to give up.

But sadly this comes at a cost.
Both emotionally and financially.
This is a cost we could never have seen coming, could never have planned for and certainly never expected.

legal fees are predicted to be upwards of fifty thousand dollars.

Today as we lodged our TASCAT appeal in Launceston, we were contacted by a local reporter to inform us of another 6 AI Data centres that had been presented to  Tasmanian parliament.

No locations have been revealed yet,  I guess they too will be a surprise.  😢

Today we have started a gofundme page, something we hoped we would never need to do.

Today we again ask for your help in fighting this monstrosity.

If you can help, we appreciate your support more than you can know.

Thank you from,

Anne-Marie Bastian
