This Is What Has Happened to MeBy

For almost eight years, I have been trying to survive something no person should ever have to endure. Not just the abuse from one individual — but the deeper, more devastating abuse that happens when entire institutions silence you, silence evidence, and call it “justice.”
When I left in 2015, I believed leaving meant safety. I believed the danger was behind me. But what I didn’t understand is that the moment the abuse becomes “legal,” it becomes harder to escape — because the abuser now operates with the full weight of police, prosecutors, and legal systems behind him.
The Ottawa Police Service failed me from the first moment I asked for help.
I brought them recordings of threats, proof he was monitoring me, emails where he admitted wrongdoing, and sworn statements from people who had firsthand knowledge. I brought them everything a victim is told to bring.
They ignored it.
