Thank you all who signed the petition so far! Almost 700 signatures is a proof that this issue resonated with all of our neighbours and it is wonderful to see us all stand together!
I got a reply from Camryn Chin, the officer from the City of Toronto Community Planning, who said that the public will be heard at the community consultation meeting, so if you didn't so far, please register and support us. There is strength in numbers:

Another, very important thing you can do is to send a message to our councilor Gord Perks, and his officer Mark Strifler, the people who are going to either approve this project or not.
In the e-mail please note to voice your disapproval for the proposed amendment to the 34-50 Southport St project, because:
-a 32-storey tower will drastically increase the traffic congestion on our already heavily populated two-lane street
-it will create an unnecessary burden on our already overflowing and underfunded schools
-the area is a retail desert with no effective services in a radius of about 1.5km, forcing families to travel for basic necessities
-a new building with hundreds of units and thousands of new people is not just a temporary nuisance, it would be a permanent nail in the coffin on our once safe, sustainable and vibrant neighbourhood.
Please help us preserve the dignity of our lives at Swansea/Ormskirk neighbourhood. There are people in these buildings who spent their whole lives here, and their children continue to live here too. The neighbourhood is not going to be improved by the addition of hundreds of units so small that they can only accommodate people who will use them as their transition properties. The only ones who will benefit from this expansion are the owners of the developing company, and they don't care about what the future holds for our community- once they sell the condos they will be gone forever and we will be left to deal with the consequences of their greed. Please stand with our community and say no to this project amendment.
You can send this email, or something similar, to:
Gord Perks: councillor_perks@toronto.ca
Mark Strifler: mark.strifler4@toronto.ca
I also have to mention that I had written to our MPP Alexa Gilmour but aside from "thank you for bringing this to our attention" did not receive any valuable input, and that is even more than I got from emailing our mayor and her 4 deputy mayors! We will see if anyone takes any interest in this. If not, October is when we have the city elections again...
Thank you all for being so invested in this struggle of ours! There's power in unity!
