Petition updateStop the Closure of the Riverside Theatre: Act now❤️ Thank You for Your Support — The Fight is Not Over!

First of all, thank you. Your support, big and small, means everything.

🛑 The fight is NOT over.
Discussions are still ongoing between campaigners, councillors, and Ulster University. We’re pushing for a workable alternative: one where the University leases the Riverside Theatre building to the Council — who could then sublease it to a charitable trust, a local business person, or run it directly at lower operational cost.

⚠️ A quick reality check.
There’s a lot of noise online, and some of it simply isn’t accurate. Yes, the Riverside does need investment — but the figures shared in recent press coverage are inflated and framed to provoke fear. The truth? The theatre is still licensed, still legally operational, and still receiving shows right up until 31st July 2025

The doors could stay open. With a more sustainable model in place, repairs and upgrades could be phased in over time. It doesn’t have to be all or nothing.

💬 We’re not asking for miracles — just a fair chance.
We believe the Riverside deserves the opportunity to stay open while long-term solutions are explored. It’s too important to the community to be shut down without transparency or public input.

We will see you all on Tuesday 3rd June at 6:30pm — bring your signs, your voices, and your positive energy. And please spread the word — we’re expecting BBC, UTV, and local media to be there, so let’s make our message loud and clear.

Thank you, Take care
