Please keep encouraging people to sign this letter.

Today I have written the following letter to Des Moore, CEO of the Cumberland Building Society:

Dear Mr Moore,

CLOSURE OF DENTON HOLME CUMBERLAND BUILDING SOCIETY BRANCH

Enclosed with this letter are signed copies of a petition opposing the closure of the Denton Holme branch of the Cumberland Building Society. In addition to this petition, 274 people have signed an online petition on Change.org - www.change.org/p/stop-the-closure-of-the-cumberland-building-society-in-denton-holme

These petitions show the strength of feeling locally about the closure of the Denton Holme branch, and the sense of anger over the lack of consultation with the local community.

On your website you claim to represent ‘Kinder banking’ – run for the benefit of your customers, but the way in which the Cumberland Building Society has gone about the closure of this branch goes completely against this, particularly the lack of consultation.

The decision to close the Denton Holme branch appears to be driven by financial considerations than it does about seeking to serve the local community.

The loss of this branch will be felt by many within the local community – the fact that there is a new branch opening on English Street will be of little help to the business and residents of Denton Holme.

I realise that it is unlikely that the Cumberland Building Society will reverse its decision to close this branch, but I do call on the board of the Cumberland to reconsider this decision.

Yours sincerely

Simon Bickersteth
