Announcement from River City Waterway Alliance:

“Please join us for a Monday evening Trash Dash in Arcade Creek!

RCWA volunteers work in earnest to prevent areas they have cleaned from becoming trashed again. It is the only way progress can sustainably occur.

Nowhere is this more visible than Del Paso Regional Park where volunteers have removed nearly 68,000 bs of trash in less than 2 years.

Between Aug 2021 and Sept 2022, volunteers performed 41 cleanups of Arcade Creek between the Capitol City Freeway upstream to Auburn Blvd. within Del Paso Regional Park in order to rid this 1 mile stretch of trash. Thereafter, rains washed in new trash and debris (mostly from upstream encampments) and, more recently with a dry creek bed, new illegal camps have been moving back into the Park.

In a quest to get this entire 1 mile stretch "RCW Clean" again, 30 additional cleanups were performed on the stretch of creek between Bridge Road up to Auburn Blvd (.8 miles) between October 2022 and the present. During next Monday's cleanup. which will be our 72nd in the last 2 years, we will focus on the remaining .2 mile stretch in order to complete the entire section for the first time since last September.

We'd love your help!”

Save Del Paso Park would like to add:

How disheartening it is to have to keep cleaning up the same areas again and again. The city hires contractors to clean- but they are limited and without volunteers like River City Waterway Alliance it would be a garbage dump! It’s high time a long term solution for the root of the problem is found. Still, we commend the efforts and progress being made by this all volunteer group. Thank you RCWA for your continued efforts and advocacy for Arcade Creek in Del Paso Regional Park!
