Friends of Del Paso Park!!!! Exciting news for our community!
Ron Jellison and Charley Duckworth will be speaking on behalf of Friends of Del Paso Park and other stakeholders will be speaking to the County board of Supervisors about Del Paso Park.
We need your support at a meeting tomorrow, March 28th at 9:30 a.m.
See meeting details and agenda HERE
Civic Leaders and Friends of Del Paso Park have been meeting with park districts and County Supervisors, advocating for the County to take over the management of the Eastern end of Del Paso Park. (Essentially all the park east of watt ave to the Picnic area.)
This would put the park under a better park district and would also be in the Sheriff’s jurisdiction instead of the never seen City Police. And seldom seen Rangers who have just 10 Rangers to protect 220 City parks, the most remote being our own.
It will allow those, like us, to have a voice that would be to OUR County Representatives instead of the City Officials whom we must beg for scraps.
We have a group of speakers but we need a showing of the community to support the speakers and the proposal. Need is not a strong enough word... it is imperative to have support for these speakers. Getting to this meeting has taken months of groundwork and it may be the best shot we have for making this ever happen.
The reason for seeking this change in management is because the City has failed to develop and/or maintain this beautiful park. It is our contention that the main reason for this is because the city is not and has not been responsible to the surrounding community. Because we can't even vote for or against them.
Let this be known, it is NOT ABOUT HOMELESS or THE RECENT HOMELESS SHELTER. That is a different discussion from this and needs to be.
We do not want that to be the discussion. The discussion must be about the City failing to improve or maintain the east Del Paso Park. That is the problem we have been living with, improvements and maintenance of them is our PRIMARY NEED, and as far as this meeting goes they are our only point.
I will give out reminders on your mailbox on the day before the meeting, but please make a plan to be there.
THIS MEETING HAS THE CHANCE TO REALLY IMPROVE OUR NEIGHBORHOOD AND PARK!!!!
Please come, if you have friends that would be in support please invite them to come too.
