Hey Gabriel at the Mayor's office
It seems to me, that whatever the "good neighbor" policy is at the new "Engagement center" promised to our neighborhood, at the Council vote at its approval should have been emplimented by the City of Sacramento long before you ever heard of Friends of Del Paso Park or me.
You say it is a City wide policy..... it seems to us, in our neighborhood that it is a no one policy mostly enacted by Friends of Del Paso City Park and few else.
The fact that this "Engagement Center" has attracted more homeless, more trash and more drug use in Del Paso City Park, as we had projected, is a simple fact that everyone knew would happen.
The Mayor proclaimed that these problems would be mitigated by the "good neighbor policy" that, as far as I can ascertain has no real guidelines or responsibility on anyone.
While I appreciate your willingness to contact HOPE and maybe get some kind of patrol in the area... why does it take us to bring this in to existence? Shouldn't there be a plan that the "city wide" can work from? Why isn't there already patrols?
And you wonder why any neighborhood would say... not in my back yard? I'm sure that my property values have dropped in direct result of the shelter. But worse, the park is returning to being unsafe for children and frankly, I now carry mace when I take a walk in the park.
There are at least 3 camps in the Habitat right now in the area that is just a few hundred feet from the shelter. Have they been invited? If not why? This is the sweet spot for that shelter. They supposedly only going to reach out 1/8th mile.
If these homeless have been invited and declined, were they reported to 311 and park safety for removal and ferenseclean? I'm sure there is a pile of used needles floating down stream soon.
