Item #3 on page 3 of 4 reads:
"Approve DCR’s Good Neighbor Policy (GNP) for this location, as discussed and agreed upon by the Sacramento Children’s Receiving Home, which is located directly to the Southeast of the Outreach and Engagement Center."
Because the Children's Receiving Home is on city property, the city feels that it can bully this program into accepting a homeless shelter next door. According to the city the CRH has agreed to this- however the CRH is not coming forward and saying this- the city is putting words in their mouth.
We are advocating for the safety of the children- DOJ background checks including fingerprinting and DNA testing needs to be done. Name recognition is not enough. These children have been subjected to lots of kinds of violence- all kinds of abuse- and the city is not addressing any of that to screen out potential risks.
The community was pushing for an alternate use such as a nature center or a women and children only center- but the Mayor pulled that from us.
This is not an appropriate site for a shelter; adjacent to the CRH and flanked by a public children's playground on the other side. But the Mayor would have everyone believe that all this is just fine....
We have been able to determine that there is a significant federal financial contribution to the effort to place this homeless shelter facility next to the Sacramento Children’s Receiving Home. Please call Congressman Ami Bera’s office at 916-635-0505 or 202-225-5716, identify yourself by name and address and by saying “I am a constituent living near this proposed facility”, and ask that he rescind the funding for this project on the basis that housing drug addicted/mentally ill persons next door to children who have already been traumatized is a bad idea.
