I have been made aware through confidential information of significant risks for kids who attend St Michael School Triq Tal-Balal San Gwann  as well as to all residents of Swieqi, Madliena, Victoria Gardens, San Gwann, Naxxar, Iklin, Birkirkara, Gharghur.

Apparently there are very dangerous and cancerous fumes being released from a bitumen plant operating illegally in the limits of San Gwann and Naxxar. The operation takes place day and night, so even during night the air quality is significantly poor and toxic.

On Monday these fumes could be perceived strongly in the Madliena area and some residents complained, thinking it was coming from the Maghtab landfill or from the process of burning weeds in fields, however unfortunately this was more toxic than simple field fires and was in fact coming from this illegal plant.

You may also choose to report this issue to your respective Local councils, school management, ERA, though ERA are aware of the issue they are not keen to proceed since only a few people have reported the matter, irrespective of the level of toxins being released into the air.
