Awaiting the ABA's response - now a Royal Commission

I don't want to give up hope. Last year we came such long way in getting the government to see where these problems lie... Now there will be a Royal Commission into all banking conduct, with a final report expected by February 1, 2019. Plus, the ABA themselves announced on 20 December, that they have re-written the code of practice themselves. It's now with ASIC for review. The public can't view this new version of the code, only obtain snippets about the areas in which it has been re-written. However I believe that it's unlikely that deceased estates have been considered. Given that the ABA's independent enquiry pre-dates Scott Morrison's request to them. But, people die everyday. Banking practices in this area have GOT to get with the times and change to a more ethical model! Until they do, banks are making money from dead people's savings and debts every single minute! Today I wrote to Scott Morrison, asking for the outcome of his request to the ABA... they had until 31 December 2017 to respond to his request. I fear that this issue will be lost and any potential change delayed, through the immense media and resource focus that will inevitably take place during the investigation. I still believe that; - It is not acceptable for financial institutions to charge interest and late payment fees on a customer’s account after they have died. - An individual’s estate, or the future executor of said estate, should not be detrimentally financially affected during the period of inaction that naturally occurs between the date of death and presentation of a Will / Probate / Power of Attorney to a financial institution. A small change to the code and practices NOW, or a year of waiting for a Royal Commission and hope it's included? Let's hope it's the former. I'll report back on the Treasurer's response when it comes. After that, we'll know whether our campaign has been worthwhile or not.
